Benefits and Challenges of using Customer Data for marketing
The key benefits of using customer data for digital marketing are being able to identify your target audience easily through the use of mainly free online tools. The list of options in this area is extensive, some being Where are your target audience? What time of day are they online? What device are they using? You can gain insights into online behaviour and create or adjust your strategy to improve your online performance. For example, if you notice a significant bounce rate from a particular page on your website, you can use this information to redesign the page so that you might be able to retain your audience, enabling you to reach a target of length of time on your website, or number of pages clicked. It may be that there is no lead on from a page visit, adding a Call To Action to sign up for a newsletter may encourage further interaction with your potential customer.
Some of the
challenges around using customer data are that it can be difficult to learn how
to analyse the information to provide you actionable details to assist you in
improving your online performance. One of the key issues that is becoming more
prevalent is issues concerning privacy. There have been some headline grabbing
hacks in recent times, in 2021, the Irish health service (HSE) hack caused
significant disruption to the service, resulting in appointment cancellations
and back logs in medical care. In addition, it hugely damaged trust in digital
data as it effected people from all aspects of life. Perhaps the only positive
outcome is as a nation, there is far more awareness of cybercrime and its
implications than ever before, however this has created additional challenges
in collecting digital data due to fears of further cyber-crimes.
