Google Analytics Tips for Small Businesses

Setting up a google analytics is the easy part for small businesses, It’s the application stage that small business finds most difficult. To get to the insights that will actually help you make a difference, you will have to know the basics of how to use certain features in Google Analytics.

Here are some tips & tricks that should be used by all businesses:

1.       Use Custom Segments - A segment is a subset of your data. Google analytics will provide you with a large amount of data. Creating custom segments within your data set will allow you to get the most value out of your data. For example, creating a segment for Users who viewed a key page or a particular type of page.

2.       Set Intelligence Events – This setting will create an automatic custom alert in Google Analytics that will tip you off about something unusual on the website. For example, a sudden dip in the amount of traffic to your site, or a sudden rise in traffic coming from a particular region. Doing this will allow small business to react fast, & either help mitigate an issue, or increase stock levels due to the increase in customer interest.

3.       Assign Monetary Values to Your Goals – This is an important tip, as it is important to identify the goals of your website, as primary goal of a business website is to generate revenue. For example, how much is a phone call worth to your business? If this is an option on your website, you can analyze how many people follow the links on your website to call which could result in a call to make an appointment. You can only truly measure the effectiveness of a marketing campaign by analyzing how it affects your bottom line, for better or worse
